Earth Day

This year’s message emphasizes that environmental protection, the responsible use of resources, and resilience in the face of climate challenges are a shared responsibility of businesses, institutions, and the public alike.

For the pulp and paper industry, Earth Day is a reminder of the importance of the circular economy, recycling, the efficient use of energy and water, as well as a responsible approach to natural resources. These very principles are an important part of modern and competitive industrial production in Europe.

In the European context, this year’s Earth Day is strongly linked to the themes of the circular economy, investment in the green transition, and support for industrial competitiveness. The European Commission is currently communicating the preparation of the Circular Economy Act, and CINEA has launched the LIFE 2026 calls with a budget of EUR 589 million for a greener and more competitive Europe. At the same time, the European Environment Agency has stressed that the success of the circular economy will depend on whether it delivers real benefits for businesses, workers, and citizens.
