The Waste Management 2026 Conference, held on 17–18 March 2026 in the High Tatras at Hotel Patria**, opened up important discussions on the future of waste management in Slovakia. The event brought together representatives of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic, the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic, municipalities, and experts from practice.
The discussion focused on upcoming legislative changes, the Waste Management Strategy until 2035, the reform of the extended producer responsibility (EPR) system, and its specific impacts on market operations.
A practical expert perspective was brought to the conference by Marianna Matajová on behalf of ZCPP SR. In her presentation, “EPR in Practice – Obligations, the Reality of the System, and Impacts on the Slovak Paper Market,” she highlighted the day-to-day reality of paper mills, as well as the specific experience and challenges faced by the Slovak paper industry.
The event confirmed that waste management, EPR, and the overall legislative framework will play a key role for the Slovak paper industry in the years ahead.
